Martine Emdur

Martine Emdur |Painter

Growing up by the beach I’m always drawn to images of the ocean and beaches… there’s something instantly calming and cleansing about immersing yourself in that environment.

Recently I’ve been coming across the amazing and instantly recognisable paintings of Martine Emdur (who coincidentally is TV host Larry Emdur’s sister) whose signature underwater works play with scale, light and shadows and the human form to create some captivating paintings.

In the artists words “The scale is key, I want people to stand in front of my paintings and get the feeling of being immersed. And I think about the temperature of the water even more than the light. The temperature is everything in my paintings. I love a warm-blooded body in a cool body of water. I love the light and warmth from the sun streaming through the top of the picture where the body has pierced the surface and then all the shadows give the sensation of the cold, more mysterious water below.”

‘Step into the image and you are immediately in over your head, suspended, weightless, sometimes spellbound’ – is the description by Anna Johnson who wrote the bio for the artist  (See more at: http://www.timolsengallery.com/pages/artists_details2.php?artist_id=300)

I think at present I’m probably lacking the budget but it would be LOVELY to have one of these beautiful works on a wall in my home…..
